BEFORE WE LEAVE
There are lots of last-minute things that have to be done before we leave on a mission trip….don’t forget duct tape, DEET mosquito spray, one towel, flip-flops for
showering on the rough concrete floor, the mosquito netting, a camera, rain gear, and remember to keep one day’s underwear and T-shirt in your carry-on bag in
case they lose your main bag.
The Sunday before we leave, we are “commissioned” at our church, Coronado Community Untied Methodist Church ( www.cormeth.org ).  It is a brief but
important time, where the team stands in front of our congregation, ready to go and serve, and our pastors (Bob and Esther) focus on our team, our travel, and our
mission.  Everyone is reminded that, although God goes with us, we are not “taking Him” to Ecuador; He is already there.
That afternoon, we have a “packing party” in the Stauffer garage.  Each team member is allowed one personal bag, and their second bag is a team bag, which
will be filled with medical and dental supplies, and as many of the donated shirts, hats, lotions, and glasses as we can stuff in…  Each bag is inventoried, labeled,
and weighed, as it must not exceed the 50-pound limit.  A bag contents notebook is kept so that we can find what we need when we need it.
For this particular trip, we’ll need to travel to Miami the day before we fly out, since we have to be at MIA at 0500 on Saturday.  We will have a
6-hour layover in Bogota, Columbia, and we’ll arrive in Quito at about 6 PM on Saturday.
Here are a couple past team photos as we prepare to pack and leave….
