THE PLAN

     This team of 22 plans to leave Florida on Saturday, June 17, with 44 large bags of luggage and drugs and supplies, 22 carry-on bags, and 22 willing hearts.

     We hope to land in Guatemala City during the hot mid-day, then clear Customs and travel about three hours by bus to Chichicastenanga.  We will be staying at a hotel in Chichi, and will enjoy Central America’s largest outdoor market on Sunday morning.

    Sunday afternoon, we will get our first glimpse of the clinic building at the Salud Y Paz clinic in Camanchaj, where we are to meet all the potential surgical candidates.  At this time, we will evaluate each person’s problem, decide whether we can help them (or not), and then create a schedule for the week.  The patients will have been recruited by the network of missionaries across Guatemala, and the long travels will be accomplished by these patients with the assistance of those missionaries. 

     We hope to then work at the clinic Monday through Friday, seeing medical patients in a couple rooms at the clinic, and staffing the two Operating Rooms with nurses and surgeons.  The plan is to have a plastic surgery room going and a gynecology room operating next door.

     Chichi and Camanchaj are in the highlands portion of the country, so we’ll be up at about 6000 feet elevation.  We’ll expect pleasant days and very cool nights.

     Our return trip to the USA is scheduled for Sunday, June 25.
